The Qur'an gives two provisions so that we can continue to do good lasting. Two provisions is piety and patience.
Making piety did not expect a reply except from God, and patience makes it hopeless to continue to do well, even rewarded with evil. Takwa without patience will not last long and patiently without piety would be futile.
