 A REFLECTION ON VALENTINE
Tuesday, 14 February 2012 08:54

"And if you obey most of those on earth, they will mislead you nescaya from the way of Allah. They follow nothing but fancy, and they are nothing but a lie (against Allah). "(Surah Al-An'am: 116)

VALENTINE DAY (TODAY Compassionate)

Day of 'affection' which is celebrated by the people of West in recent years called 'Valentine's Day' is very popular and widespread in Indonesia pelusuk even in Malaysia as well. Moreover if menjelangnya in February where we met many symbols or advertisements are not Islamic in order to expose only the form (promote) Valentine. Various entertainment stems from the discotheque (disco / nightclub), hotels, organizations mahupun small groups; boisterous dolphin berlumba offer events to celebrate Valentine. With the support (influence) the mass media such as newspapers, radio, televis mahupun, most of the Muslims were also fed (served) with advertisements for Valentine's Day.

HISTORY OF VALENTINE

It is ironic when our ears hear even our own 'plunge' in celebration of Valentine Valentine without knowing the history of it's own. Valentine actually was a martyr (in Islam called 'martyrs') are due to errors and is 'generous' then he was given the title of Saint or Saint.

On February 14, 270 AD, St. Valentine was killed because of opposition to the Roman authorities at the time that King Claudius II (268-270 AD). To glorify him (St. Valentine), which is considered a symbol of fortitude, courage and surrender in the face of cubaan life, then his followers to commemorate the death of St. Valentine as a 'religious ceremony'.

But since the 16th century AD, 'ritual' is starting to fade and turn into 'not a religious festival'. Valentine's Day dinner party is then connected to love the ancient Romans called "Supercalis" which falls on February 15.

After the Romans entered Christianity (Kristian), parties 'supercalis' then associated with funerals St. Valentine. Acceptance funeral St. Valentine's 'day of love' is also associated with the belief that the time Europeans 'love' it started booming 'like males and females' on February 14.

In French Normandy, in the Middle Ages there is the word "Galentine" which bererti 'galant or love'. Rhyme between galentine and valentine leads one to think that young people should be in finding a life partner on February 14. With the development of the times, a 'martyr' called St. Valentino will probably continue to shift much sense (away from the actual erties). Humans today are no longer clear about the origin of Valentine's Day. Where in this day and age people know Valentine via greeting card, fraternity party, exchange gifts and so on without wanting to know the background history of over 1700 years ago.

From this it can be concluded that this moment was no more patterned or animist beliefs that seek merosak mere 'faith' Muslims and Muslim as well as introducing western lifestyle under the guise of romance, matchmaking and love.

VIEWS OF ISLAM

As a Muslim ask ourselves, whether we will imitate just something that is definitely not come from Islam?

Let us consider the word of God: "And ye janglah megikuti what you do not have any knowledge of it. Indeed, hearing, sight, and heart, it will be held accountable for everything he said. " (Surah Al-Isra: 36)

In Islam the word "know" means being able to know with all five senses are controlled by the liver. Knowledge to the extent the content and nature of the actual lifting. Not just to see or hear. Nor is it just to know the history, purpose, what, who, when, how, and where, but more than that.

Hence the belief that Islam prohibits very bum (follow) to a trust others or in Islam is called taqlid. Hadeeth of the Prophet Muhammad: "He who imitate or follow a people (religion), he included the (religious) it".
Allah SWT says in Surah AL Imran (Imran Family) verse 85: "Those who seek religion other than Islam, it occasionally is not acceptable (religion) thereof, and in the Hereafter he is among those who lose." (Edit / uswah-infocom)
